Ensuring Learning While Challenging and Supporting Each Student to Achieve Full Potential

What is Strategic Planning?

Strategic planning is the process of setting goals, deciding on actions to achieve those goals and mobilizing the resources needed to take those actions. A strategic plan describes how goals will be achieved through the use of available resources.

Strategic Planning Timeline

December 2018 – Initiation

  • Formation of a stragic planning committee (Communications Advisory Committee)
  • Identification of priorities, goals, and objectives
  • Establishment of a timeline
  • Identify a Facilitator: NEWESD 101

February 2019 – School Board Draft Preliminary Strategic Plan

  • Development of Strategic Goals, objectives, initiatives
  • Creation of a draft strategic plan document

March-May 2019 – Data Collection & Analysis

  • Methods used: ThoughtExchange (staff, families, and community), focus group (PTA/PTO/Booster Reps), and listening sessions coordinated by NEWESD 101 in each school building (administration, staff, and students)
    • ThoughtExchange is an online platform for gathering and analyzing feedback from large groups. Participants share thoughts and rate others’ contributions anonymously. Uses advanced algorithms to identify key themes and insights from the feedback.

March-April 2019 – Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engagement with high school students, families, staff, and community members on preliminary draft plan through data collection methods
  • Incorporation of stgakeholder input into the planning process

June-July 2019 – Review & Approval

  • Accept and discuss recommendations, provide further input (June 2019 Work Session)
  • Presentation of the draft plan to the school board. Discussion and review (June 2019 Regular Board Meeting)
  • Final approval by the school board (July 2019 Regular Board Meeting)
